What guides the therapy.
My Approach
I believe that an informal talk story, yet goal-directed approach that is built on trust and safety, incorporates empathy, is guided by genuine curiosity and care, strikes a delicate balance between being serious and having light moments, deeply believing that everyone is doing the best they can with what they’ve got, utilizing evidence-based interventions within expertise, and doing the work in and out of session, are the key ingredients to effective therapy.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a form of therapy that helps clients to understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The treatment focuses on two things- identifying and modifying thoughts that may not be entirely true or helpful and addressing the resulting behavior that may no longer serve you. These changes can lead to more balanced and healthy narratives about yourself, others, and the world as well as learning more adaptive coping skills.
Supportive Psychotherapy
Supportive Psychotherapy is a form of therapy that targets relieving emotional distress and lessening concerning symptoms via the development of a positive, collaborative, and supportive relationship that utilizes reassurance, re-education, advice when appropriate, and encouragement, all of which can help with the client reaching mutually understood goals.
